After six years in Cairns and Sydney, the Novotel Northbeach's new sales and marketing manager Tracey Pascoe has decided there is no place like home.
Tracey, who was educated at Woonona High School, left six years ago to pursue a career in hospitality and tourism in Queensland after initially working in the information technology industry in Wollongong.
``But it's great to be back ... fantastic," she said this week after returning to Wollongong to succeed Kellie Brady, who has moved to the Novotel Brighton Beach as sales and marketing director after three years at the Novotel Northbeach.
In Cairns, Tracey joined the Radisson Plaza's sales and marketing department then transferred three years ago to the Radisson's Sydney hotel in Liverpool St.
Two years ago she again moved - this time to the hotel Intercontinental as sales manager.
Tracey and her husband Brett, a Qantas flight steward, relocated to Thirroul with Tracey planning on commuting daily to her job in Sydney.
However, her plans again changed when the Novotel Northbeach opportunity came up. ``After three years in Sydney and three in sunny Queensland I'm ready for the Gong again," she said.
``It's a nice relaxing lifestyle. I'd had enough of the hustle and bustle. The Novotel is a beautiful hotel and with the refit I think it is perfect timing to be here now."
Tracey believes there are plenty of opportunities to promote the Novotel Northbeach in Sydney and ``get the word out there that Wollongong is not only a steel city but a nice escape from Sydney and a beautiful place to visit".
Kellie, who also still lives in Thirroul and commutes to Brighton, said she was looking forward to her new challenge.
Before coming to Wollongong she worked at the Novotel Twin Waters hotel.
``But it was time for me to move on and broaden my horizons ... the Accor group is a great company to work for," she said.
``They have 2300 hotels worldwide. I am well entrenched in their philosophies."
